National Work Zone Awareness Week (NWZAW) is an annual spring campaign held at the start of construction season to encourage safe driving through highway work zones. The key message is for drivers to use extra caution in work zones. Join us April 11-15, 2022 in bringing attention to the risks. Wear orange on Wednesday (April 13) to provide a visible reminder and to show your support for the families who have lost loved ones in work zone crashes. About MUTCD Compliant Temporary Traffic Control Signs and Plaques
The design and application of Temporary Traffic Control Signs and Plaques used in Temporary Traffic Control zones should consider the needs of all road users (motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians), including those with disabilities. Various Sections of the MUTCD require certain Temporary Traffic Control Signs and Plaques, their supports, and/or related appurtenances to be crashworthy. Such MUTCD crashworthiness provisions apply to all streets, highways, and private roads open to public travel. Temporary Traffic Control Devices (TTC) shall be defined as all signs, signals, markings, and other devices used to regulate, warn, or guide road users, placed on, over, or adjacent to a street, highway, private roads open to public travel, pedestrian facility, or bikeway by authority of a public body or official having jurisdiction. Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) Signs and Plaques convey both general and specific messages by means of words, symbols, and/or arrows and have the same three categories as all road user signs: regulatory, warning, and guide.
