R1 Series

The R1 Series includes STOP (R1-1) and YIELD (R1-2) signs used at passive railroad and light rail grade crossings. These signs regulate vehicle behavior where active warning devices (flashing lights, gates) are not present. MUTCD Section 8B.04 and 8B.05 govern their use: R1-1 STOP or R1-2 YIELD signs must be installed at passive highway-rail crossings. At highway-LRT crossings, STOP or YIELD signs may be used with or without Crossbuck signs, depending on conditions.
